A Farmhouse Door

We got a new front door.
A new farmhouse door.
Doesn’t that seem like such a simple thing?
Nothing earth shattering.
Nothing even remotely unique.
Or inventive.
Or special.

But for me it is.
You see…..there used to be a really impressive door here.
It had leaded glass and swirl patterns of birds chirping to each other carrying banners intertwined with vines and leaves and all kinds of exotic plant life.
It was a door that made you sit up and take notice.
A real head-turner.
Everything about it…. said….look at me…..”I’m fancy.”
 Now don’t get me wrong.
I like fancy.
I mean…..after all…..I do wear red lipstick.
And highlight my hair.
And wear sunglasses.
And if that’s not fancy….I don’t know what is.

But I live in a farmhouse….in Kentucky…..in the middle of the country.
So when it comes to my doors, I wanted a front door that was simple.
And looked solid and welcoming.
A door that made you want to knock on it.
A door that would always open for friends and family.

A door that would say…..”We have sweet tea inside and we’re about to start a bonfire out in the back pasture and we just picked some fresh vegetables and there’s a hot apple pie sitting on the stove and someone brought over a guitar and kick your shoes off and join us.”
